A Jiggs dinner also called a boiled or cooked dinner is a Newfoundland tradition that dates back to the early 20th century. The name comes from George McManus' comic strip Bringing Up Father, whose main character is an Irish immigrant named Jiggs living in America.
George and our patient Crystal have a lot in common. Crystal is very proud of her NFLD roots and really just wants to ensure strong family bond continues to create happiness and security for each family member. That was exactly Crystal’s wish when she requested a Jiggs dinner.
Always thankful for the opportunities to complete this work, the provision of ingredients provided a chance for Crystal to give each member of the family a sense of identity as they shared in the preparation and broke bread together, all the while, learning of their heritage.
